TEAM
Along with the work of Professor Brown, the Fertility Meter and related research would not have been possible without a team of scientists and researchers based around the world. The team is presently led by Professor Len Blackwell.
Professor Leonard F. Blackwell, Massey University
Professor Blackwell is trained in organic chemistry, biochemistry and reproductive physiology. He studied under Professor James Brown at the University of Melbourne in the physiology of ovulation and in the development of the Fertility Meter, a device for monitoring ovarian activity in all its manifestations and one of the only true quantitative point-of-care devices in existence. For the past 36 years, Len has been involved in research and development of urinary assays as point-of-care diagnostic kits and recently with quantitative immune-chromatographic assays. He has developed prototype tests for five different analytes relating to reproduction and fertility, and a device for overcoming the fluctuations in urine volume which has held back non-invasive point-of-care diagnostic tests. Doctor Delwyn G. Cooke, Massey University
Dr. Cooke's qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (Physiology), Post Graduate Diploma (Physiology), Masterate of Science (Biochemistry) and Doctor of Philosophy (Biochemistry), from Massey University. Her areas of expertise include endocrinology, reproductive physiology, hormonal monitoring and immunoassay development. Delwyn has organised and run clinical trials of urinary hormone measurements in fertility detection and also has a detailed knowledge of human menstrual cycles and the interpretation of the hormone assay measurements. In addition, she is well-trained in lateral flow technology, having spent 12 months working as part of a team at Magna Biosciences (MBS) in San Diego, Ca. developing assays using nanoparticles. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATORS
Professor Pilar Vigil, Associate Professor, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
Professor Vigil is an associate professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She has seen her articles, books and book chapters published in more than 100 different international scientific publications and numerous publications and interviews in journals dedicated to areas of general interest and education. She has written three books on fertility and has organized and/or participated in more than 200 congresses or seminars. She has been invited to give lectures in over 30 countries. Recognized repeatedly as a women's leader by the press in Chile, she has worked since 1978 in reproductive medicine including fertility, infertility and family planning. Together with Professor J. B. Brown, she has developed the concept of the ovarian continuum. She has received numerous awards for her work in medicine and is a member of the Chilean Fertility Society and the Chilean Reproduction Society, and of the Latin-American Society for research on human reproduction. She is also a member of the Chilean Obstetricians and Gynecologists Society and the medical director of the Reproductive Health Research Institute.
